TAAHP Hosts Special Reception for Nation's Affordable Housing Leaders
Jim T. Brown, TAAHP, Executive Director
The Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers hosted a special reception showcasing the Texas Affordable Housing Industry, honoring the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs as well as the investors and other officials attending the 2009 NCSHA Conference and special delegates on October 5, 2009 at the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio, TX.
The reception was held during the annual NCSHA Conference in San Antonio and was a huge success with over 170 in attendance. Invited guests included the many executives, lenders, syndicators and investors attending the conference as well as other NCSHA members. Invitation to this special event was complimentary for TAAHP members.
The purpose of the reception was to present a Texas size welcome to the nation’s affordable state housing finance agencies, and most importantly to network with the investors, lenders, and syndicators in an attempt to showcase our Texas projects and to generate more interest in the Texas Tax Credit housing market.
The entire affair was a TAAHP planned and directed opportunity to present and showcase the Texas affordable industry and was underwritten by an enthusiastic group of TAAHP’s partners.
TAAHP Kicks off 81st Legislative Session with First Ever Rally Day
Jim T. Brown, TAAHP, Executive Director
The Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers (TAAHP) kicked off the 81st legislative session with a Rally Day on February 11, 2009 in Austin, Texas. Our goal was to bring a statewide coalition of developers, builders and owners, and service industry professionals to the State Capitol to meet with elected officials and their staff to discuss issues crucial to the Affordable Housing industry.
The day will started off with an orientation breakfast at the Sheraton Hotel, where members were briefed on key public policy and legislative issues and received materials to leave with legislators and their staff.
TAAHP staff scheduled over 50 appointments throughout the legislature and assigned member teams to meet with elected officials. Staff developed literature to distribute to each official and their aides. Morning meetings were followed by an Affordable Housing Luncheon featuring Speaker of the House, the Honorable Joe Straus, Texas House of Representatives. During the luncheon, members and guests heared brief remarks on the state of affairs for affordable housing in Texas, as well as our goals for the 81st legislative session.
Rally Day highlighted important issues facing our industry and served as a launching point for increasing member participation and solidifying our relationships with Texas Senators and Representatives at the state and local level.
